RE-UNION DAY'S REPORT
Find below the report of GCUOBA's NEC meeting;
- General Assembly of Old Boys, principals, staff and students worshipped and was addressed by the outgoing President-General. The theme was cleanliness, good manners, hard work, and foundation of development.
- General Inspection: All six Houses; Oleh, Ashaka, Sapele, School, Warri and Forcados were inspected and School House was adjudged the cleanest House for the year. The renovation work carried out on School House was adopted as the minimum standard for future renovation. The pavilion was also inspected; the beautiful renovation work was still in progress but well advanced; the Benin branch was commended for a job well done. Similar kudos was paid to the Lagos branch for the completion of Phase II rehabilitation works i.e. the second Main Block and School House.
- General Meeting: A General meeting of Old Boys, Government Officials, PTA Chairman, principals, staff and students was held, during which the following took place:
- The President-General welcomed all and commended the neat state of the campus. He applauded the complete absence of "white pollution". He regretted the ugly incident of the immediate past SS3 students' riot and destruction of School property. He enjoined the School authority to follow through with disciplinary actions that would check future occurrences, while providing adequate channels to allow students to peacefully register any legitimate grievances they may have.
- Principals' report. A joint principals' report on the state of the School was rendered cataloguing the activities within the past year. Request for more assistance from the Government and Old Boys Association and others were made.
- Awards. Several awards were made as contained in a separate report.
- Annual General Meeting. Lagos, Ughelli, Warri, Benin, Sapele, Port Harcourt and Asaba Branches reported on their activities in past year. USA, UK, Abuja Branches were absent. NEC reiterated its previous directive that each branch prepare and submit their reports in writing at every AGM.
- Sapele Branch pledged to renovate the Dining Hall. Warri Branch promised to continue funding the operation of the Schools' Cyber Cafe. Benin Branch will conclude the renovation and repairs in the pavilion. Port Harcourt to rehabilitate Warri House and Lagos to renovate Forcados, which was in a sorry state of disrepair. Ughelli Branch will continue to supervise all projects and pledged to renovate the School's General Store.

- During its meeting the NEC endorsed the "GCU Who is Who" project and directed all branches to actively support and get their members listed.
- Press Conference: Deacon. G. O. Onosode in his President-General's valedictory press briefing, advocated more investment in human resource and a change of mindset by Nigerians, as solution to the problem of the dwindling standard of education. He concluded that government take urgent steps to address problems in the country's educational sector by stepping up maintenance of facilities in public schools instead of leaving this to Old Boys/Girls Associations only.
- Post Reunion: Deacon. Gamaliel O. Onosode contacted the Executive Governor of Delta State after the reunion and explained the wish of GCUOBA to have the two schools integrated as one; the Governor kindly acquiesced to the request and has given directives that the two schools be merged.
