The Solomon Giwa-Amu Foundation

Solomon Giwa-Amu (1959-2008)
G.C.U (1978-1979)
The Late Brig. Gen. Solomon Giwa-Amu

Dear Mariners,

I am sure that nobody amongst us can believe that it is one year, nearly, that Solomon tragically passed on.  It has been a most traumatic one year, but somehow, we have all managed to cope without him.  So much has happened in the past year, with Judith trying to live without a husband she truly loved, and the children coping without a doting dad.

But knowing that Solomon was such a phenomenal character in more ways than one, it will be more tragic for us alive if we do nothing to preserve the fond memories we have of him.  Judith has been an outstanding woman, and has surprised most of us by the strength of character she has shown.  She is therefore spearheading moves to continue to do Solo's charitable works by instituting a Foundation in his honour, The Solomon Giwa-Amu Foundation.  This will be launched on February 17th, 2009 here in Abuja.  Notices are being posted and you may get more information from the website, www.s-gaf.org . I believe the website will be fully ready in the next couple of days, so please keep checking.

There will be a memorial service on the 18th of February, 2009 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja at 12 noon.  No other ceremony is planned beyond these two events.

The purpose of this mail is to pass on this vital piece of info, hoping that you will pass it on to those whose email addresses I do not have, but will be happy to support Judith and the foundation.  Please give generously of your time, money and effort so that we can help propagate the ideals that Solomon stood for, the belief that the youth of Nigeria must be helped to shape the destiny of this potentially great country of ours.

If there is anything you may want to know, please feel free to contact me, but please, pass this message on and support this noble cause.

May Solomon's gentle spirit continue to rest in peace.  Don't forget him so soon.

Best Regards,

John Onwah
